About the Instructors

Cindy Alemian Rice, MSPH, RS

Richard Andrea

Cindy Alemian Rice, RS, MSPH, CEHT is a Certified ServSafe® instructor with a Master’s of Science Degree in Public Health.  An epidemiologist and researcher with numerous journal publications, she is also a Registered Sanitarian, NSF Certified HACCP Manager, and NEHA Certified Environmental Health Technician.

For over 10 years, Cindy successfully owned and operated her own catering business, brownie manufacturing company (International Brownie), and corporate café, before dedicating herself back to Public Health and food safety education in 2002.  In 2004 she created and published foodservice and home versions of Pocket Guide to Food Safety: 25 tips you need to know! available for educational and promotional purposes.

She is currently a food safety columnist for Ecolab/Daydots and their national publication Food Safety Solutions.

Richard Andrea is an Executive Chef and Culinary Educator, who has worked extensively in the restaurant industry and is currently teaching Culinary Arts to Massachusetts vocational high school students.  A 1980 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY, he has competed in international culinary competitions as far away as Switzerland and Germany, and has successfully brought many of his culinary students to compete nationally and internationally as well.

Richard has been teaching Food Safety and Culinary Arts since 1990.  In addition to being a ServSafe instructor, he also conducts Food Safety workshops and on-site staff trainings for the restaurant industry.  He combines his extensive culinary experience with practical demonstrations of food safety principles, including cross-contamination, preparation and good sanitation, and he is able to educate foodhandlers in a visual, interesting and most effective way.
